Espimodel 2012

Caros amigos

Making of: Crimean War & Locomotives - by Carlos Briz (part 4)

Two whole days and nobody guessed it right?

Ok, I'm prepared to give you guys another chance, since I just cannot bring myself to deprive you of all the great pics we have in storage, related to this outstanding new dio CB is working on.

Will you just check out all the great figures lying around!

This pic turned out really nice, bringing out a very realistic water reflection.

Was it really that difficult to figure out that this was a paddle-wheel steamship, that operated as a troop transport during the Crimean War?

What is wikipedia good for, anyway?

This is not over yet!

Making of: Crimean War & Locomotives - by Carlos Briz (part 3)

And now the technicolor sets in!

Ok, I have to admit that "technicolor" may not be the proper english term for what I have in mind.

On the other hand, what do I know about the english language anyway. I'm portuguese!

Using my inside contacts I have already glimpsed some of the forward stages of CB's work on this dio, and I can tell you that it will be really SWEET!

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

In the pics shown in this post, you can see CB has already painted and placed in the dio many of the elements that are typical of a loading dock of this day and age, such as transport wagons of several kinds.

For sure, a loading dock could not be complet without a transport vessel!

That ship over there looks good already.

But wait until you see it a little later on!

But now it's time you guys start making an effort to receive the goodies!

If you want to check out the further evolution of this dio, you have to let me know (in the comment box) the type and some technical specifications of this vessel here.

Until then, this particular series of posts is hereby SUSPENDED!

Making of: Crimean War & Locomotives - by Carlos Briz (part 2)

And now for part 2!

As you can see, the table if full of hardware typical of the Crimean war, such as transport wagons, tents and so on, ilustrating all the materiel needed to sucessfully engage in war in this historic period.

All the elements are placed in the disposition they will assume in the dio (I hope...).

The initial paint and shading will serve the artist well, when applying the final colors.

Now for the "hardcore" work!

And it all starts with a plastic cilinder...who knew...

CB uses a product from Faller, to provide the necessary texture to the "floor" of the dio.

That timber "fence" on the side of the dio looks really good.

Will you just look at all those great buildings, all nice and shinning!

Caution: to not drool all over you tabletop, since there are more pics coming up and that way you can permanently damage your chances to check them out!

If JF decides to get his act together and place more pics on the blog, you will have a good chance to get another post related to this dio before the weekend.

Making of: Crimean War & Locomotives - by Carlos Briz

Work in progress

This time it's the other way around!

That's right, in our perpetual pursuit of excelence, we bring you the project CB is currently working on, BEFORE it´s completion.

This dio is related to the Crimean War (1853-1856), also called the first "modern war", due to the extensive use of the electric telegraph and the use tactical use, for the first time, of railways - just the thing that was sure to awaken CB´s interest.

This war also brought something new to the international scene: an (ungodly?) alliance between the British and the French.

As you can see, CB is not all paint & plastic.

He is also a master carpenter!

Wood has to secrets to this guy (much like myself...in my dreams).

Well guys, this dio promises to be really BIG.

Stay tuned and check it out!

Vietnam War & Lomocotives Series - by Carlos Briz

Figures, AFV's and MP Boats - Pendraken
 Scenary - TimeCast
(Class Alco S 2 locomotive - US Army Transportation Corps)

Oh boy, not again!

Is it possible that CB was able to bring us another outstanding and massive dio?

Do not bother to answer (not that you would, anyway...), since this is clearly a rethorical question and you all already know the drill.

This dio is realistic in the sense that it reveals the industrial might behind the US Army, that allowed (and allows...) for the deployment of massive amounts of men and materiel, in a limited amount of time and anywhere in the world.

And the Transportation Corps, that is the combat service support branch of the US Army, is one of the organizations that makes this possible.

Here you can check out some powerful and armoured assets of the "brown-water navy", that the US Army used in Vietnam.

The term "brown-water navy" (as opposed to "blue-water navy") was coined in the US and dates back to the american civil war (1861-1865), when the Union Army introduced the gunboats in the river sistem (that mostly had murky brown waters - hence the term "brown-water navy"), as (another) mean to strangle the Condeferate States, blocking trade, supply and troops movements.

As you can see, I am nothing like that lazy guy JF!

Despite being on holidays (after much sweat and hard work), I've been working night and day in order to bring you ever original and outstanding posts over here!

The Making of WWII & Locomotives nº 57 (1)

First - Orange Scenics Atelier

Here you have it: another outstanding "making of" post, related to another joint venture between CB and ML!

These two guys are sure to become modelling heroes in the near future.

Well, once again it all starts in ML's personal computer, that serves as a modern drawing board.

You sure can search the web all you want, but this kind of art work will be difficult to find.

Therefore, the best thing you can do is to check out ML's website for it, buy a lot of stuff from him and in the meantime make us all rich! (by the way of comissions, royalties and stuff...)

Some way or another, ML is able to translate something that only exists inside a computer into a perfect scale, real-life model - in PAPER!

Just check out the details!

That crane and water deposit are out of this world!

 Do you want more goodies?

In that case, all you have to do is stay tuned to the best wargame/modelling blog on the web!

WWII Locomotives & War Series nº 57 - by Carlos Briz and Mário Laranja

Train material - Atelier Infinite
Vehicles and Figures - Wargames-South
Buildings - Orange Scenics

(Class NKPS 421-OB3 armoured locomotive - Russian State Railways)

This is another massive dio guys!

And above else, this is another joint-venture between CB and ML!

That's right, check out the new dio they sent us, all geared up with a couple of outstanding armoured locomotives and a lot of costum-made state-of-the-art buildings from orange scenics.

Besides, a lend-lease Matilda is always welcome...

Just let those Germans try and take them! They'll regret it!

Well, the Wehrmacht sure got it's hands on a bundle of these trains, early in the war, but the Russians came back strong, building more of these units and fitting them with T-34 and KV1 turrets.

JF tells me there will be a post related to the "making of" of this great dio (he failed to mention when...)

Stay tuned and check it out!
